About Us

The Florrie is a charity that has been at the heart of the L8 community for over 130 years. Our stunning Grade II listed Victorian community arts & heritage venue is a social, cultural, educational, and charitable hub for the people of South Liverpool.

We offer a wide variety of activities for people of all ages, including Community Hub programs for adults and The Basement Youth Zone for young people. We also provide food support through The Florrie Community Shop and Community Cafe and host a wide range of cultural, musical, and artistic events and exhibitions throughout the year. Florrie Radio, based at The Florrie, showcases music from across Liverpool and Merseyside, providing a platform for local talent and voices. Additionally, we have versatile event spaces available for hire and offer fully inclusive workspaces for small local businesses and charities.

Our Aims & Objectives

The Florrie consists of a spectacular Grand Hall, Multi-Sports Gymnasium, Heritage Centre, Community Arts & Music Room, Library & IT suite, Community Cafe, Radio Studio, Meeting Rooms, Managed Workspace for up to 10 SME’s & two community gardens.

Within these wonderful spaces we directly deliver a wide range of activities, events & services to the local community & act as a venue for cultural, musical & commercial events.

Our purpose is to provide a venue that is accessible to all, delivering the following charitable objectives:

  • Preserve for the public benefit, the building known as The Florence Institute.
  • To be a cultural hub for community arts, music & other activities that encourage cultural community events & artistic participation in all its forms.
  • In the interests of social welfare provide or assist in the provision of facilities for recreation & other leisure time occupation with the object of improving conditions of life.
  • Educate & assist people so as to develop their physical, mental & spiritual capacities & their conditions of life may be improved.
  • The promotion for the public benefit in areas of social & economic deprivation by all or any of the following means:
    1.  the relief of poverty.
    2. The relief of unemployment. 
    3. The advancement of education, training, retraining and work experience.
    4. The creation of new development opportunities.
