Friend of The Florrie Tommy Calderbank (aka. Tocky Tom) is working on a project to create a statue of Liverpool legend Brian Epstein.
There are over 70 statues of The Beatles around the world, but none of their iconic manager, without whom the band would never have made such a phenomenal and ongoing impact. The team behind this project aim to rectify that. Their vision is to realise a world first: a statue of Brian, The Fifth Beatle, and one of the world’s great creative individuals.

Speaking at the launch of the project Tommy said:
“Today is a VERY special day. We’re here to honour a great man, one of our own, in his home town, on what would have been his 85th birthday.
To the amazement of history, every record company he approached turned down The Beatles. Now there’s over 70 statues of them around the world.
Similarly, to the amazement of history, there’s no statue to Brian. We’re here to remedy that anomaly.
Make no mistake, this is HISTORY in the making. Better late than never…
Brian was a 1-off, a genuine individual, and yet his work was to give to the masses. And boy, did he give.
Truly, Brian is the gift that keeps on giving. He united the world in the most powerfully sustaining way, and his impact shows no sign of abating.
Especially through The Beatles, of course – who seem to be blowing away the old showbiz adage that ‘what goes up must come down’ by getting bigger by the day – but not just them.
His roster of talent included Cilla Black, Gerry and the Pacemakers, The Chants, Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas, and more. His influence on the world was, and remains, overwhelming positive, and I believe our debt to him is incalculable.
So, for his charisma, his foresight, his business acumen, flair, panache, savoir faire, wit, intelligence and most of all his LOVE, let’s do this. For the fans. For the City. And most importantly for the man himself.
TIME FOR BRIAN!”
You can support the project by donating or pledging on their Crowdfunder Page. There’s a range of exclusive rewards created just for this campaign.
They aim to raise £60,000, but if they exceed that, they plan to create a musical instrument library in Brian’s name, to help nurture the next generation of musical talent in the city.
