Wellbeing /Well-Being or Wellness has become a very popular term that a lot of people, professionals are using…….but what does it mean? It can often be used as an umbrella term to cover all aspects of a person’s life. Wellbeing/ Wellness are often described as the state of being comfortable, healthy or happy. Generally many people associate Wellbeing or Wellness with just health, when it also covers physical, mental, social and nowadays spiritual too. Everything is interlinked, just as we as human beings are interlinked too.
Health ……. How is your health? Are you prone to coughs, colds, unexplained aches and pains……making regular visits to the GP……constantly thinking there is something not quite right with you.
Physical.….. How is your physical shape? Do you give yourself a hard time because you would like to be fitter, slimmer but spend hours watching telly or on your phone. Do you have a lovely home but still feel dissatisfied inside? Maybe you don’t like where you live and wish you lived elsewhere.
Mental….. So many of us have underlying mental health issues, we can feel very lonely, isolated and full of sadness and fear…… in a relationship or not, feeling sometimes that we are the only people who feel this way….then we become depressed and go the doctors, maybe get tablets. Everything is interlinked.
Social.…. Maybe you have a social life of sorts…..but it feels superficial…..maybe your friendships feel flimsy or maybe you have no social life at all and would love more friends to share your feelings or try new things with.
Spiritual.…… Mindfulness and meditation is becoming more popular, many people are turning away from religion and trying to find inner peace and happiness from inside themselves instead of material possessions.
